Efficiency of Project and Levels of Implementation
By the month of July IPI has identified 24 Umunthu Ambassadors from six Traditional Authorities in Phalombe namely T/A Jenala, Nazombe, Chiwalo, Kaduya, Mkhumba and Nkhulambe. So far preparations for training has been done and the venue has been identified. The selection of the ambassadors was witnessed by the Group Village Headmen and in some cases the T/As were available just to see that those who are heavily committed in other committees should not deprive those who are active but not in any committee. Out of the 24 selected Umunthu Ambassadors, 8 are women.
Relevance of Project
The project has been positively welcomed by the right holders who are willing to contribute in identify development gaps in their areas and create demand from duty bearers. There is positive altitude from the Assembly and the VDC.
Goals and objectives
The main goal of the project is to empower local communities to demand good governance and fulfilment of economical, political and social rights as promised by section 30 of the Constitution of Malawi, through a structure mechanism that facilitate dialogue between Duty Bearers and Rights Holders.
Specific Objectives
The specific Objectives of the project are:
- To empower people at grassroots level with knowledge on governance and on how to claim human rights such as the right to development (RtD)
- To create structures that can be used to demand fulfilment of RtD by local communities.
- To build basic legal capacity locally in order to access available systems for redress for rights violated.
