Burglery took place on the main road and although it involved picking an extremely large and heavy safe and loading onto a suitable vehicle. It is claimed that nobody noticed despite the frequency of police patrols on the road. About K2 million in cash plus jewellery, passports and documents were taken

It was due to initiative on our part that we were able to question various watchman along the street that we obtained information that we passed onto the police.

Police were more interested to know the amount of money stolen.

They did not bother to take fingerprints despite various requests.

The safe was cut into two peices, for which an established workshop equipped with diamond cutting tools would have been required. No investigation was initiated into trying to find this workshop despite providing the suspected situation of this workshop to the police.

The safe was then taken to Njuli, and where WE traced it and informed the police, but they did not go to the site or make inquiries as who might have dumped it there. How could it be possible to move such a safe without being noticed whereas law abiding citizens are subject to such checks on the road going into minute details like reflecters and spare tires by the same police and even saloon cars are scearched?

Our watchman was involved in the burglery, and on inquiry we were told by his family that the police had picked him up but the police do not admit to knowing of his whereabout, and we learn that he was in Mozambique and had made trips to & fro a number of times and still remains at large.

Three people have subsequently been charged with the burglery and the same people have also been charged with an K8 million robbery at Unifreight (Zain).

The accused pleaded not guilty when charged, but privately the police have returned some passports to us. Money & documents still remain missing.

We were advised that there would be a bail hearing, we attended the initial hearing to try and show our presence so that bail would not be easily granted, hence the hearing was adjorned for judgement on bail, we turned up at the stipulated date to find that nobody had turned up for the bail judgement, hence we are not aware of the current situation.

A trial date of 10th September had been given to us but we have no information of what has transpired.

The accused are described as being people of little means but have retained two very high profile (expensive?) lawyers to represent them. How were these lawyers paid? If cash then MRA should rightly investigate.
